1. Using the geonet on the roadbed of the roadway and railway can distribute the load effectively, improve the loading capacity and the stability of the roadway, and prolong its service life.
2. Spreading the geonet on the slope of road can prevent landslides, conserve water and soil, beautify the environment.
3. Spreading the geonet in the dyke protection in the reservoir and the river can protect it from the landslide.
4. Using the geonet in the coast engineering can amortize the concussion and the erosion of the surf.
2D Geonets: Geonets are used at road construction, their restoration and repair in order to improve the road surface quality, decrease washboard formation, primary and secondary reflected cracking. Geonets are a mesh structure consisting of overlapping threads/bands (from 3 to 15 mm) at a permanent angle (60-90°). This creates equal holes with the width from 10 to 200 mm. They are obtained by press forming of thermoplastic polymer (usually it is high strength polyethylene) or welding of threads/bands.
Main application objects of the materials: Reinforcement of constructive layers of road surfacing during the construction of new and restoration of already existing motor ways; Reinforcement of already existing road surfacing; Reinforcement of joints of asphalt concrete pavement: Preventing cracking when extending road; Connecting road surfacing of various types; Construction of high load platforms (container terminals, port buildings, airports, warehouse complexes, heavy trucks' parking places, etc); Patch work; Road segment restoration after underground communications’ repair Landscape architecture.
Material Major Advantages: Despite mutual penetration of constructive layers, geonet allows getting jamming effect of structural fill material in meshes, which allows controlling horizontal slides. Due to high hardness geonet allows sustaining considerable loads at very small deformations. As reinforcement material geonet can be applied for even distribution of load, which allows considerably increasing repair intervals. Asphalt concrete has good resistance to short-term loads, but low duration in case of bending and cannot sufficiently distribute external impacts and internal tensions. That is why fatigue and reflected cracks as a result of asphalt concrete operation lead to its premature destruction. Geonet application allows increasing repair intervals considerably (3-4 times in comparison with unreinforced asphalt). Thus, geonet fulfills two main objects while asphalt concrete surface reinforcement: 1. Increases elastic properties of asphalt concrete at the same time increasing its resistance to elongation at long-term and multiply applied loads. 2. Increase the distribution capacity of asphalt concrete, as a result of which the tense from a vehicle wheel is distributed to larger area, resulting in less tense concentration and slowing down cracking processing.
